The Virden Oil Capitals Junior 'A' program is the most recent addition to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Virden's rich oil heritage and historic title of being the "Oil Capital of Manitoba" were both key elements in determining the team's identity.

The Oil Capitals played their first game on September 21, 2012 against the visiting Dauphin Kings in front of a near sell-out crowd at Tundra Oil & Gas Place; a game that they won by a score of 4-2. Dylan Gejdos recorded the first goal in team history just 3:12 into the first period. Kyler Beckett earned the win in goal and first star honours, making 23 saves.

Virden is proud to be a part of the MJHL and bring excellent sports entertainment to the Southwestern Manitoba and Southeastern Saskatchewan areas. With a solid structure and business model in place, the Oil Capitals look to remain a member of the MJHL for many years to come.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's mission is to provide each player with an elite hockey development experience with a strong emphasis on education and citizenship. The Virden Oil Capitals are one of 11 teams in the league and compete against other franchises located throughout the province.
