BACK TO BACK WINS

The Virden Oil Capitals hosted the Neepawa Titans on Thursday, Februrary 3rd. 

Virden, MB – Tyler Thoendel and Carson Buydens each had 2 goals in Thursday night’s game against the Neepawa Titans helping take the 6-2 victory.

Tyler Thoendel with his 11th of season just 50 seconds into the first with an assist by David Bielik. Forward, Dylan Halliday added to the score at 8:56 for his 22nd of the season assisted by Parker Johnson. Carson Buydens scored the Oil Caps 3rd goal of the night on a power play at 9:29 with assists from Logan Rands and Braden Fischer for his 14th of the season.

The Neepawa Titans put up 2 goals towards the end of the first. Dallon Wilton at 18:55 and Will Highet at 19:37 leaving the Oil Caps up by one heading into the second.

During the second, the Oil Caps scored 2 more goals. Tyler Thoendel scored his second of the night and 13th of the season at 1:33 and towards the end of the period Captain, Logan Rands scored on a power play furthering the Oil Caps lead by 3 going into the final period.

During the last 20 minutes of play only one goal was scored; Carson Buydens with his second of night and 15th of the season with assists from Dylan Halliday, and Trevor Hunt.

Goaltender, Bailey Monteith was a big help with the 6-2 victory by saving 34 out of 36 shots on net!

 

Friday, Fenruary 4th, 2022

@Neepawa, MB – On Friday, February 4th the Virden Oil Capitals went on the road to Neepawa to play the Titans for back-to-back victories after winning 6-2 Thursday night.

The scoring didn’t begin until the third frame as the first two saw no scoring.

In the third period Dylan Halliday scored at 2:13 giving the Oil Caps the lead.

The lead wasn’t held long with Neepawa’s Austin Clyne scoring just shy of 5 minutes later tying up the score.

The final 10 minutes of regulation solved nothing, same with the 5-minute overtime.

To the shootout they went where Nathan Driver was up first for the Oil Caps with no goal followed by Neepawa’s Jaegar Lapointe with the first goal of the shootout. Dylan Halliday; second shooter for the Oil Caps scored as well.

The next 5 shooters were all no goals with Tyler Thoendel up next as the Oil Capitals 5thshooter. Tyler Thoendel came in wide, started coming across the net pulling the goalie with him, and tucking it in on the short side for the shootout win!

The final shooter for the Titans was a no goal.

The Oil Capitals won in the shootout ending the game 2-1!
