Virden, MB – Despite outshooting Wayway in last night’s road game 42-21 the Caps fell to a 6-4 loss. The Capitals went 0 for 3 on the power play and Wayway went 1 for 4 (25%).
Wayway got on the board first with a goal at 5:36 from Mack McPhee assisted by Brenedan Martin and Adam Withers, 1-0. Wayway put another between the pipes to make it 2-0 with a goal from Landyn Cochrane assisted by Brandon Stanley and Derek Wood. Wayway finished off the scoring in the first period with a goal from Korwin Shewchuk assisted by Brad Budman and Dylan Tanner, 3-0. The shots on goal in the first were 5-5.
In the second period, the Wolverines put one on the board early with a goal at 4:17 from Jacob Bestul assisted by Brad Budman and Justin Paulson, 4-0. Dylan Thiessen got things rolling for the Capitals with a goal at 8:11 assisted by Jeran Knorr and Morgan Magwood, 4-1. The Wolverine’s stretched the lead to 5-1 at 11:30 with a power play goal from Brad Budman assisted by Landyn Cochrane and Brendan Martin. At the end of 40 minutes of play, the Caps trailed 5-1 to the Wolverines. Shots on goal were 23-5 for the Capitals.
The third period Carter Cowlthorp started things off right with a goal at 1:36 assisted by Kyle Salway, 5-2. The Wolverines didn’t take long to answer back with a goal from Jackob Bestul at 9:42 assisted by Riley Martin and Chad Kilmnik, 6-2. The Capitals kept battling, putting another one on the board at 13:09 from Kyle Salaway assisted by Carter Cowlthorp and Tyler Kirkup, 6-3. The Capitals would put one more away at 18:16 with a goal from Mack Hardy assisted by Kirklan Lycar and Ben Dalke, 6-4. The final score was 6-4 for the Wolverines and the final shots on goal were 42-21.
Carter Cowlthorp earned the third star of the game with 2 points (1G, 1A) on the night. The Capitals next action is Saturday, January 28 on the road against the Dauphin Kings. The Capitals next home action is Sunday, January 29 against Wayway – 7:00 pm puck drop.
