Caps Community Connection

Virden, MB - The Virden Oil Capitals in partnership with IJack Technologies are proud to announce that each week  until the end of the 2015/2016 Season and into next year, www.oilcapshockey.com will feature a segment called “Caps Community Connection.”

The Oil Capitals are proud to be a part of the community of Virden and enjoy partnering with schools, minor sports and community groups for events and projects throughout the year.

We hope fans will take note of the efforts put forth by our players to make this community a better place and promote healthy living, volunteerism and learning not only among young kids, but everyone in town!

Enjoy!

Events During the Week of February 21st to 27th

-Kyle Salaway and Dylan Cusmano spent last Friday at the Annual Father / Daughter Fundraising Ball. The two Caps forwards dressed in their Sunday Best and welcomed each young girl to the Banquet Hall.

-Patrick Zubick has been spending time weekly at Mary Montgomery School helping out in various roles….

“Patrick has been coming to Mary Montgomery, Mrs. Pidborchynski’s grade 1 classroom, weekly. He reads and does math activities with students. He does a fabulous job and the kids love him!” – Alana Whittle

-Along with helping out at the Father / Daughter Ball, Kyle Salaway and Dylan Cusmano joined Laurel Lamb and the Manitoba Winter Games committee on their tour of Tundra Oil & Gas Place as part of the bid process. Each member of the selection committee was given an Oil Caps Golf Towel as a token to show the club supports the bid for the 2018 Winter Games.

-Head Coach Troy Leslie, Carter Cowlthorp and Zach Whitecloud ran Breakfast Club on Thursday February 25th. Breakfast Club is a program that allows young hockey players to spend the morning on the ice working on their skills, then eat breakfast and head to school. Coach Leslie and the players have been assisting at Breakfast Club all season long

-Coach Leslie and seven players attended Goulter School on Monday the 22nd as part of February’s “I Love to Read” Month. Brad Reichardt, Patrick Zubick, Kyle Salaway, Derek Cross, Devan Schram, Kyle Bird and Zach Whitecloud spent the afternoon reading to all the grades in the school.

-Members of the RCMP and Team Chaplain Wayne Unger spent Wednesday morning talking to the players about the dangers of impaired driving. The RCMP has been a proud partner of the MJHL for years and continues to provide our players with educational tools, advice, background checks (for volunteer work) and potential recruitment information.

-Cole Oliver and Sean Kuehn spent Thursday at Goulter School reading to the Nursery School kids. (With the split schedule, these kids missed out on Monday’s Festivities)
