Caps drop two goals to the Steelers in Gimli

by marketingoilcaps
October 28, 2018

The Oil caps faced off against the Selkirk Steelers last night in a well attended off-sight game in Gimli Manitoba.

The 1st period had no goals but did have power play opportunities on both sides with no goals to show from the opportunities.

In the 2nd, the caps broke the silence with a goal from Kolten Kanaski (7th of the year at the 7:13 mark) finding the back of the net assisted by Wojciechowski and Halliday. the Steelers then answered back with Connor Barley (9th of the year at 12:31) with assists going to Carter Barley and Will Middleton. Nearly 4 minutes later, the Steelers would score the eventual game winner off the stick of Nate Halvorsen (16:39) unassisted, putting Selkirk up 2-1, which was the final tally at the end of the night.

The Steelers went on the defensive to hold the lead in the 3rd period.  Both goalies had a solid night;  Dalton Dosch, for the Caps, stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal his way in the hard luck loss, and Levi Mitchell got the win for the Steelers stopping 32 out of 33 shots.

The Oil Capitals power play wasn’t able to capitalize on the night which may have ultimately helped the Steelers get the win and comments echoed by Head Coach Troy Leslie, “I thought we did a good job numerous times in the game of creating some momentum for ourselves 5 on 5 tonite. Unfortunately our power play struggled when it could have been a difference maker.”

The Oil Caps face off against Selkirk again on October 30th in Selkirk. That away contest will be available for viewing on HockeyTV or listen on Channel 1 Radio with Ray Walker.
