Virden, MB - Tonight’s game marked the last of a five-game homestand; which ended in a shootout loss against OCN Blizzard.
The first period was a period of opportunity with neither team finding the back of the net. The game remained scoreless after 20-minutes of play. Shots on goal after the first were 15-11 in favour of OCN.
The Caps would get on the board first with a powerplay goal scored by #20 Ben Dalke assisted by #12 Tyler Kirkup and #10 Tanner Lewis at 2:16 in the second period, 1-0 Caps. OCN answered back at 13:47 in the second period to even things up at one apiece. The Caps got on the board one more time to go ahead one at 14:33 in the second period. The goal was scored by # 12 Tyler Kirkup assisted by # 20 Ben Dalke and #22 Mack Hardy. After 40 – minutes of play the Caps were in the lead, 2-1 Caps. Shots on goal in the second were 17-15 in favour of OCN.
OCN got their second goal of the game to tie things up at 18:29 in the third period. The third period ended in a 2-2 tie. Shots on goal after the third period were 12- 9 in favour of OCN.
In OT the Caps once again found themselves with lots of chances – but over time finished with no further answers and the game went to a shootout.
Shooting for the Caps was #21 Jeran Knorr – no goal, #20 Ben Dalke – no goal, and #2 Marco Creta – no goal.
Shooting for OCN was #10 – no goal and #24 – who scored to win the game for OCN.
Final Shots on goal: 46 – 37 OCN
Final Score: 3-2 SO
Redferns hardest working player of the game went to #9, Sam Shultz.
