Caps Powerplay Sings the Blues in Game Two

March 13

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Blues evened up their MJHL Quarter-Final Series with the Virden Oil Capitals last night with a 3-2 victory at the MTS Ice Plex.

Virden’s demise was the power play which only managed to convert just once in their ten opportunities, which included a pair of first period 5 on 3’s.

Much like Game #1, the Blues opened the scoring.  Reid Stefanson would pot his first of the playoffs on the power play to give the Blues the early lead.

Another 1st period Blues power play would lift them to a 2-0 lead when Kamerin Nault buried home a loose puck on a goal mouth scramble for his first of the post-season.

Fifteen seconds into the 2nd period Mack Hardy was assessed a Checking from Behind penalty and was sent to the showers. He would be one of three Oil Caps ejected from the game.

The Blues failed to convert on the ensuing power play and Colton Spicer quickly found a rebound on a long shot from Dylan Cusmano to cut the lead to one.

But just as quickly as the Caps had gained momentum, the Blues took it right back as Ryan Pruden went coast to coast and fired a wrester past Sean Kuehn to give the Blues the 2 goal lead once again.

In the third, the Oil Caps were pressing and outshot the Blues 9-6 but a lone goal from Tanner Lewis on the power play wasn’t enough as the Blues hung on for the 3-2 win and their first win of the series.

Sean Kuehn made 18 saves in the loss while Scott Parsons cruised to a 23 save victory.
