Virden, MB – The Oil Caps made a comeback to take down the Neepawa Natives, 4-3 in last night’s game. The Caps went 2 for 8 (25%) on the Power play in last night’s win and the Natives were 1 for 4 (25%).
The Oil Capitals opened up the scoring and took the lead early at 2:18 in the first period with a goal from Jesse Korytko assisted by Drayson Skulmoski and Jeran Knorr. The Natives tied the game up at one with a powerplay goal at 13:32. After 20-minutes of play the game was a 1-1 tie and shots on goal were 16-12 in favour of the Caps.
The Natives kept rolling in the second scoring two goals early in the period, taking the lead 3-1. At 19:45 in the second Kyle Salaway found the back of the net on a power play goal assisted by Jeran Knorr. The Caps trailed by one after two periods of play – shots on goal were 13-7 in favour of the Natives.
The third period was all Capitals, as they came out rolling scoring their second powerplay goal of the game – goal was scored by Ben Dalke assisted by Tyler Kirkup and Jeran Knorr for his third assist of the night. The game was tied 3-3 with less than two minutes to go in the third when Captain Mack Hardy put the game-winning goal past the Natives goalie assisted by Carter Cowlthorp. The Caps would hang on to win the game 4-3! The shots on goal in the third period were 13-8 for the Caps and the final shots on goal were 36-33 in favour of the Caps.
The Caps next game is on the road Friday, October 28th against Winnipeg Blues. Next home game is Sunday, November 6th vs Selkirk Steelers – 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
