Creta Scores First MJHL Goal

October 20, 2016

After a few days off of games the Caps hit the road again yesterday to play the Neepawa Natives.  This is the second encounter with the Natives this year after winning 1-0, October 6 at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.  The Caps were looking for much of the same outcome in last night’s game, a win, but lost 3-1.

The Natives got on the board early, capitalizing at 0:53 in the first period to open up the scoring. Natives scored again at 13:58 in the first period to go ahead, 2-0 early in the game. After 20-minutes of play, the Caps trailed by two, but shots on goal were 14 – 13 in favour of the Caps.

The Natives capitalized first again scoring at the 15:00 minute mark in the second period, 3-0 Natives.  After 40-minutes of play, the Capitals were down 3 goals.

The Caps found a little fire in the third period keeping the Natives from getting any more on the board and scoring their first goal of the game. The Caps scored a powerplay goal at 18:13 in the third period. The goal was scored by Marco Creta, getting his first as an Oil Capital and first in the MJHL assisted by Mack Hardy.  The final score was 3-1, Natives and final shots on goal were 43 – 38 in favour of the Natives.

Captain, Mack Hardy leads the team in scoring with 13 points (3 goals & 10 assists) close behind is Ben Dalke with 11 points (9 goals & 2 assists.) The Capitals are currently 6-5-2 this season

The Caps next game is at home for the Halloween game Saturday, October 22 vs Neepawa Natives – 7:30 p.m. puck drop.  Trick or Treat on the concourse before the game brought to you by Virden Ford and Mainline Motors – Virden & Birtle. Free Admission for kids in costume.
