Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals bounced back after yesterday’s game and pulled out a 3-2 win over Wayway at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. The Caps outshot the Wolverines 55-30 in tonight’s 3-2 win. Virden Oil Capitals Assistant Coach Carter Duffin said, “ We were very happy with the team’s level of compete tonight, as we turned the page from yesterday’s loss. We played all 60 minutes at a very high tempo and had continuous pressure on Wayway all evening with 55 shots on net. This is a much-needed step in the right direction as we move into our final 10 games of the season.”
Wayway started the scoring with a goal at 10:01 in the first period from Trevor Kavanaugh assisted by Brandon Stanley and Landyn Cochrane. Seconds later the Caps answered back with a goal at 10:58 from Dylan Thiessen assisted by Jeran Knorr and Sam Schultz, 1-1. After the first period of play, the Caps and the Wolverines were tied 1-1 and shots on goal were 14-9 in favour of the Capitals.
The second period was a quiet one with no scoring on either side, as it proved to be a goalie standoff. After 40 minutes of play, it remained 1-1 and shots on goal were 23-9 for the Capitals.
The third period the Caps chances started to find their way to the back of the net, as young gun, Kolten Kanaski put one by Wayway’s goalie to break the tie assisted by Jeran Knorr and Hayden Pierce, 2-1 Caps. The Capitals Carter Cowlthorp put the Caps up by two at 13:37 assisted by Kyle Salaway and Jordan Thomson, 3-1 Caps. The Wolverines would make the game a nail bitter putting one by McVeigh at 18:47 from Landyn Cochrane assisted by Quinton Cubbon and Trevor Kavanaugh, 3-2 Caps. The Caps would hold on to earn a 3-2 win over Wayway and final shots on goal in the third were 18-12 for the Caps.
