OIL CAPITALS LAUNCH HIGHWAY 50/50 LOTTERY IN WAKE OF SEASON CANCELLATION
The Virden Oil Capitals have launched a new fundraiser in the form of an online 50/50 lottery. With the Manitoba Junior Hockey League cancelling the remainder of the 2020-2021 season due to government regulations, the hockey club and its board of directors are working hard to make up for significant revenue lost from this season as result of the cancellation. The Oil Capitals organization, over the last year, has converted to a ‘Not For Profit’ organization and the 50/50 Highway Lottery is viewed as a fundraiser. However, the club is very excited to be able to offer a minimum prize value of $25,000 to the winner because of a tremendous commitment from 5 local businesses. Virden Ford, Virden Mainline, Four Season Sales, Heritage Equipment Inc. and Virden Ag & Parts have all committed to guaranteeing the minimum prize value.
“We are excited to be able to officially launch the 50/50 Highway Lottery”, said GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey. “When our organization became a ‘Not For Profit’ group, we knew we were going to have to get creative in raising funds for the hockey club. We hope the Highway Lottery is a way to do that and we like the fact that we are going to be able to present a big cheque to whoever holds the winning ticket.”
The Oil Capitals have amazing support from the local business community as well as a large and dedicated season ticket base. The organization is reaching out to every business and season ticket holder individually to discuss options for their commitment to the hockey club and Ramsey was overwhelmed with the support from the community to this point,
“We are extremely appreciative of the response we have had so far as we work to contact all of our business partners and season ticket holders with their options,” said Ramsey. The support of our hockey club by the local community is nothing short of amazing and we really appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to work through this process in the coming days.”
