January 25

Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals will wrap up a stretch of five straight on the road on Wednesday night when they visit the Neepawa Natives.

The month of January hasn’t been kind to the Oil Caps, who have only won twice in seven games.

The Oil Caps kicked off this past weekend with a 7-3 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines before dropping a tight, one goal game in Winnipeg vs the Blues.

“We got off to a great start in Wayway” said GM & Head Coach Troy Leslie.

“We took that game over in the first period, we were just okay in the 2nd and were good again in the third. It was a solid win.”

The loss to the Blues on Friday allowed the Winnipeg club to pull even with the Caps in the MJHL Standings and ultimately leapfrog them into the 4th spot.

“The Winnipeg game had a real playoff feel to it” added Leslie.

“I though we played a decent game, we needed to direct more pucks at the goalie in the middle of the game and generate a few more scoring chances.”

The Caps find themselves in fifth place, two points behind the Blues with four games in hand.

“I just want to make sure we are being consistent and getting solid efforts from our guys every night. We talk constantly about putting seven or eight good shifts in a row. If we can do that, the results will look after themselves.”

Wednesday’s night’s game is a 7:30 start at the Yellowhead Centre, you can catch the live play by play broadcast at www.gametimeradio.ca.

The Caps return home Friday vs the OCN Blizzard! Its Hockey Card Night presented by Subway! Every fan in attendance will receive a package of 2015/2016 Hockey Cards!
