Kuehn Blanks Winkler

February 6

Winkler, MB – Sean Kuehn turned in his best performance of the season on Saturday kicking aside 37 shots in a 1-0 Oil Caps victory over the Winkler Flyers.

For Kuehn, it was his 2nd straight shutout and his 5th of the season which moves him into 2nd in the league behind Nathan Park of the Portage Terriers. (6)

The Caps would get the lone goal of the first period when Ben Dalke finished off a nice passing play from Kyle Salaway and Tyler Kirkup for his 22nd goal of the season.

Dalke’s 1st period marker would stand up as the game winner.

Both teams went a combined 0/12 on the power play on a night when both goalies stood strong and defensive structure was on display.

Nathan Warren made just 17 saves in the Winkler net, but a number of them came in spectacular fashion.

The win marks the 30th of the season for Virden who move to within 10 points of the 3rd place Flyers and four points ahead of the 5th place Winnipeg Blues.

The Caps will return to home ice on Wednesday vs the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Game time is 7:30.
