McKECHNIE COMMITS TO VANCOUVER ISLAND UNIVERSTIY MARINERS

Former Virden Oil Capital forward Tanner McKechnie has committed to Vancouver Island University Mariners of the BCIHL for the 2019-2020 hockey season.

McKechnie, from Regina, SK was acquired from the Swan Valley Stampeders at the trade deadline this past season. In his time with the Oil Caps he played 19 games and put up 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points and had 27 penalty minutes.

“Tanner was a big part of helping our young group to the second round of the playoffs.  He worked hard everyday and was a good role model for our guys.  He was a mainstay on the PK and did a great job for us in the short time he was an Oil Cap. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.” said Oil Caps Head Coach and GM Tyson Ramsey.

McKechnie is excited for the next chapter in his career on Vancouver Island,

“I’m looking forward to continuing my hockey career as well as furthering my education in a beautiful place.  I hope to take the values I have learned in my junior experience and use them at the next level.”
