Nolan Ross Sinks Former Team

September 9

Virden, MB – Former Terrier Nolan Ross had a goal and an assist to lead the Virden Oil Capitals to a 5-3 win over the Portage Terriers on Wednesday night.

The Terriers opened the scoring in the first but the lead didn’t last long as Ross would pot his 3rd of the pre-season to send the teams to the 1st intermission tied at one.

The Oil Caps took a 3-1 lead early in the middle frame when Dylan Thiessen and Jake Dudar found the twine. The Terriers would not go away quietly however as Keaton Leininger cut that lead to one just two minutes after the Dudar goal.

Before the final buzzer in the 2nd, Kyle Braybrook notched his first of the pre-season to regain the 2 goal lead for the Caps.

Portage would hang around early in the third and cut into the lead once again on a PP goal from Cole Rooney.

Ben Dalke would put the final stamp on the night with his 2nd of the exhibition season to lift the Caps to victory.

Sean Kuehn made 19 saves on 22 shots for the Caps while Portage net minder Justin Klassen kicked aside 24 saves on 29 shots.

The Oil Caps will continue their pre-season on Sunday night with a rematch against the Weyburn Red Wings.

Game time at TOGP is 6:30.
