The Virden Oil Capitals got a pre-camp Christmas present last week with signing of sought after forward, Sam Brunton.
Brunton, who has a great upside to his skill game, along with a tenacious side, adds grit and offense up front to an already impressive forward lineup. Brunton had 19 goals, 30 assists, for 49 points last year, along with 89 penalty minutes for the Kenora Thistles of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. The 18-year old originally signed with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
“Sam brings skill and grit to our forward group. He is a player we have been watching for a couple years and are excited to have him in our lineup. He plays hard at both ends of the rink and is a tough player to play against. Were are excited about how this has all worked out, and getting him into our lineup. He’s had 91 points in last two years of Midget AAA to go along with 181 penalty minutes. He’s a strong forward who has a very offensive upside.” Added Tyson Ramsey, GM/Head Coach of the hockey club.
For his part Brunton added, “I am super excited to be here and to get going with this group. I am looking forward to a great season and helping as much as I can.”
