OIL CAPS COMMIT TO SAM MITANI OF THE WINNIPEG WILD FOR THE 2020-2021 SEASON

The Virden Oil Capitals have committed to defenceman Sam Mitani for the 2020-2021 Season. The 6’1” 165 lb right shot defenceman was acquired by the Oil Caps early last season from the Selkirk Steelers in a deal that saw D Patrick Comeau go to Selkirk.
Mitani, a native of Winnipeg, MB spent this past season with the Winnipeg Wild of the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League. In 26 games for the Wild he put up 2 goals and 16 assists for 18 points and 30 PIM’s.
GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey was excited to add another good young player, “We are very excited to add Sam to our hockey club. He is a real smooth skater and has a hockey IQ that is very high. He played in 1 game with us as an AP last season and it was evident that he would be ready to play at this level. He got to pucks quickly, made good first passes and defended well with a good stick. Along with Trevor Hunt we feel like we have added 2 of the best young defencemen in the U18 AAA league last season.”
Mitani was excited to make it official with the Oil Caps, “I’m very excited to join the Oil Caps organization and to play at the next level. I can’t wait to get started!”
The Oil Capitals would like to welcome Sam and his family to the organization!
