The Oil Capitals faced off against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Sunday evening. Josh Belcher started things off early, notching 2 goals in less than a minute, his 13th and 14th of the year. Wolverines, Preston Seymour, answered back with his 10th of the season. The MJHL Defencemen of the month, Tristen Cross, (15th) found the back of the net at 11:05 in the 1st, with assists going to Logan Rands and Tristan Thompson extending Virden’s lead to 3-1. Call up, Wyatt Tweet for the Wolverines (1st) assisted by Alex Lucken closed the gap to 3-2. The Wolverine’s weren’t finished there, as Greg Lee (14th) assisted by Conrad Phillips tied things up and Thomas Hansell (1st) found the back of the net before the 1st period was over putting Wolverines up 4-3 going into the intermission.
Parker Brakebill, pulled Virden even in the 2nd, with his 6th of the year with Josh Belcher assisting on the goal, for his third point of the night. Gerrick Ripley (5th) answered back assisted by Conrad Phillips and Jack Kennedy near the end of the 2nd to put the Wolverines up for good going into the 2nd intermission with a 5-4 lead.
In the 3rd , the Wolverines added a powerplay goal from Nick Doyle (4th) at 5:02 assisted by Brandon Lawson and Karstin McDonald to make the final score 6-4 for Waywayseecappo.
Riley Wallace took the loss for the Oil Capitals stopping 13 of 15 shots on net. Oil Capitals starter, Dalton Dosch stopped 9 of 13 before being relieved by Wallace. Isaac Labelle took the win for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines stopping 31 of 35 shots on goal.
Oil Caps Tid Bits: Hunter Cloutier played his 100th game as an Oil Capital. Tristen Cross was named The Telus MJHL Defenseman of the month for the month of February. The 20 year old from Virden, Cross had 3 goals and 13 points in 13 games to lead the Oil Capitals backend.
The Oil Capitals will be playing the Selkirk Steelers in Round 1. More information to come.
