OIL CAPS NAME ETHAN GUTHRIE CAPTAIN FOR THE 2024-2025 SEASON

The Virden Oil Capitals are proud to announce that they have appointed defenceman Ethan Guthrie ‘Captain’ of the hockey club for the coming season.
Guthrie hails from Brandon, MB and was a 6th round pick of the club in the 2019 MJHL Prospect Draft. He has played the last 2 full seasons with the Oil Caps and has been a very steady presence on the blue line, playing in all situations and often against the opponent’s best.  He will head up a leadership group that will look to guide what will be a younger group than the veteran laden team that took the ice last year.
GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey had high praise for the third year veteran, “We are very excited to have Ethan lead our team as our captain for the upcoming season”, said Ramsey.  “Since coming to Virden he has been completely committed to our organization and is looked up to by his teammates.  In his time here with us, he has matured into a great player on the ice and an outstanding human being off the ice.  He is exactly the type of guy that we want our younger players looking up to and we are very proud of him.”
Guthrie was also really excited to be donning the ‘C’ this coming season, “I am honored to be named the captain for this season”, said Guthrie.  “It will be a younger team and I’m excited to help lead them and the team to success.  I can’t wait for the team to have a great year.”
Guthrie and some of his veteran teammates will be in Virden next week to take in the Oil Caps Prospect and Development Camp as the majority of the team’s protected players and some free agent players will come to Tundra Oil & Gas Place for the 3 day camp.
The 2024-2025 MJHL regular season will get underway Friday, September 20th when the Oil Caps host the Dauphin Kings.  Season tickets are on sale now at the Oil Caps office by calling 204-748-4848.
