Oil Caps sign a pair of Brandon AAA Wheat Kings

The Virden Oil Capitals are excited to announce that they have signed Forward Colin Cook and defenceman Jackson Orr for the 2019-2020 hockey season.  Both were members of the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings team that won the Manitoba AAA U-18 Hockey League championship this past season.

Cook, a 6’ 182 lb right winger from Brandon, had 18 goals and 8 assists in 45 regular season games for the AAA Wheat Kings and was instrumental in helping the Wheat Kings to the provincial championship by putting up 5 goals and 4 assists in 11 playoff games.  Cook was selected by the Oil Caps in the 4thround (35thoverall) in the 2016 MJHL Draft and played 3 seasons with the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings.

Orr, a 6’ 190 lb blueliner also from Brandon, played 3 seasons as well for the AAA Wheat Kings and in his final season played in 41 regular season games where he put up 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points.  He also had a goal and 2 assists in 11 playoff contests while playing a large number of his minutes against the opponent’s top players and on the penalty kill. Orr was added to the Oil Caps protected list after the 2016 MJHL Draft.

Head Coach and GM Tyson Ramsey is excited to get these 2 players added to the Oil Caps roster,

“Real exciting day for our hockey club to add 2 players like Colin and Jackson to our roster.  I have had the pleasure of coaching both of these young men at the AAA U-18 level and I am really happy to have them join our organization.”

“In Colin we get a guy that plays the game with speed and is not afraid to go to all areas of the rink. He has a bit of sandpaper to his game and the ability to get under the skin of the opposition.  He also has some real offensive ability and shoots the puck very well.  Colin is a character guy who is a great teammate and we are really looking forward to getting him into our lineup.  And in Jackson we get another character guy that has the ability to play lots of minutes and takes pride in shutting down the opposition’s best.  He is a great skater and a tremendous shot blocker who likes to play physical and defends hard.  He has some natural leadership abilities and I can see him becoming a leader for our hockey club in the years to come,” added Ramsey.

The Virden Oil Capitals would like to welcome Colin and Jackson and their families to the organization!
