Oil Caps suffer first loss of season

The Virden Oil Capitals suffered their first loss of the regular season to the Winnipeg Blues on Thursday night at Tundra Oil and Gas Place.

Dexter Kuczek was a thorn in Virden’s side all night long as the forward netted two goals and three assists, helping the Blues defeat the Oil Caps 5-2.

Kolton Kanaski and Darren Gisti replied for the Oil Caps, who now sit with a 3-1 record.

Jeremy Link stopped 32 of 34 shots for the win between the pipes for Winnipeg, while Riley McVeigh suffered his first defeat in net for Virden, turning aside 41 of 45 shots.

The Oil Caps are back in action on Friday night as they host the Swan Valley Stampeders. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
