Oil Caps trade Mazza to Wolverines

The Virden Oil Capitals have dealt 1999-born left winger Marco Mazza to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for future considerations.

Jamie Hodson, Oil Caps director of business and hockey operations, says Mazza is a talented forward who needed an opportunity to be in a ‘top six’ forward group and believes it was fair to him to make that happen somewhere else.

“We have 17-year-olds we want to give an opportunity to play here and Mazza was a player that Wayway was interested in,” Hodson said. “Guys like (Jack) Einarson, (Josh) Belcher, (Tanner) Andrew and (Hunter) Cloutier are guys we want to get into our lineup moving forward.”

The future considerations package coming back to Virden consists of a future MJHL Bantam Draft pick.

“It’s good to add picks to continue to build a solid foundation,” Hodson continued.

Mazza participated in the Oct. 1 game with the Wolverines, picking up two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss.
