Pateman Earns First Career Shutout in Win Over Neepawa

Cam Pateman earned his first career shut out last night in the Oil Caps 4-0 win over the visiting Neepawa Natives.

Local product, Tyler Kirkup, scored his first Junior ‘A’ goal in his first Junior ‘A’ game to open the scoring. The Southwest Cougar product from Virden was called up for the game along with teammate, Jared Janke, who were both making their debuts.

Taylor Fisher added to the lead early in the second on a blast from the point for his second of the season. Then it was Soren Frederiksen who added a power play marker to make it a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Frederiksen added his second of the night in the final minute of the game after he won a foot race for a loose puck and proceeded to tuck his 18th of the season past Natives net minder, Jeremy Link.

Virden finished the night one-for-six on the power play with 36 shots on goal. The Natives were zero-for-five on the night, while firing 17 shots on Pateman. The Oil Caps improve to 17-13-4 on the season while Neepawa falls to 10-22-1.

The Oil Caps are back at home on Tuesday night against the OCN Blizzard in their second last home game before the Christmas break.  Game time is slated for 7:30 at Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
