Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals scored a pair of power play goals on route to a 4-1 win over the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Weyburn Red Wings on Sunday night.
Nolan Ross’s 4th of the pre-season would stand up as the game winner just 11:35 into the 2nd period.
Winnipeg product, Jake Dudar opened the scoring in the first period on the power play. The two teams wouldn’t be able to find the twine again in the opening frame.
Weyburn opened the scoring in the middle frame when Connor Burke found a rebound and buried it behind Sean Kuehn.
Ross then took a pass from Devan Schram and snapped home the winner just 9 minutes later.
In the third, Cody Durdle added a PP marker for insurance before Schram put the game away with an empty netter.
Sean Kuehn would kick aside 25 shots for his 2nd MJHL pre-season win, while Jack Burgart made 28 saves in the Weyburn net.
The Oil Caps move to 3-2 on the pre-season with a home and home remaining against the Dauphin Kings next weekend.
