Reid Signs Letter of Intent with Oil Caps

The Virden Oil Capitals have another Letter of Intent to announce this week. Goaltender Eric Reid, a local native signed with intentions to come to camp in the fall and fight for a spot. Reid has spent the last four years manning the crease for the Southwest Cougars. Two with the U15 program, and the other two with the U18’s.

A year ago, he started 29 of the 49 games for the Cougars, backing his team to a playoff spot. Reid finished the season with a 19-9 record, 3.47 GAA, with a .878 SV%. The team went 3-3 in the postseason. In six starts this season he was 1-3-1 with a 3.15 GAA and a .883 SV% before Covid-19 halted their season.

Reid was in the main camp this season for the Oil Caps and was one of the final cuts in the fall. He got into a pair of games this preseason, dropping a game in overtime to the Wolverines.

Head Coach and GM Tyson Ramsey had this to say about the signing:

As an organization, we are extremely excited to officially add Eric to our hockey club. Eric is another hometown player and we have watched him grow as a player and a person over the last couple of seasons. He not only is developing into a great goaltender but he is a quality, hard-working person and he is exactly the kind of kid we want to build our hockey team around. This is an exciting day for us and we can’t wait to see Eric on the ice with us shortly!
