Stampeders Halt Oil Caps Win Streak

November 8

Swan River, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals saw their four game winning streak come to an end on Sunday night in Swan River.

Zach DeGraves made 34 saves for the Stamps who picked up a 3-1 win over Virden for their 2nd win in a row.

After a scoreless first period, Swan Valley opened the scoring early in the 2nd frame when Michael Fortin found the loose puck in front of Patrick Zubuck and buried his 4th of the season.

Early in the 3rd, the Stamps would add another one, this time shorthanded. Cory Ellingson finished off a nice 2 on 1 with Josh Tripp which gave the Stamps a 2-0 lead.

The Caps would cut into that lead just two minutes later as Kyle Salaway buried the loose puck past DeGraves after a mad scrambled in front of the goal.

The momentum wouldn’t last long as Swan Valley would put the game away just two minutes later after a funny bounce made its way to the stick of Evan Last who buried top shelf over the shoulder of Zubick.

The Oil Caps powerplay, that had gone 4 for 7 in two games in OCN, dried up in Swan going 0 for 5 on the night.

The Oil Caps pick up four of six points on their three game northern road trip and move to 10-7 on the season, good enough for 20 points in the MJHL standings.

The Caps welcome Selkirk on Tuesday night. Join us early as we honor members of the Wallace District Fire Department, Virden RCMP and Virden EMS!

Puck drop is 7:30 at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.
