The Oil Caps Pull Off a Big Win to the 2nd Place Flyers

The first period saw a lone Virden goal for an early 1-0 lead. The Flyers scored the first goal of the second to tie the game. The Oil Caps took back the lead with a goal later in the period before Winkler took tied the game up again. Then another late Oil Caps goal followed by another game tying goal from Winkler to lead to the games third period. The third period saw Virden secure a win with 2 goals that went unanswered by the Flyers for a final score of 5-3 in favour of the Oil Caps.

The first period saw one lone goal by the Oil Caps captain Kolten Kanaski, scoring his 23rd of the season at 15:13 to give Virden the 1-0 lead.

The second period saw an early Flyers goal by Everett Bestland scoring his 5th of the season at 2:40 to tie the game 1-1. The Oil Capitals Owen Blocker took advantage of the power play scoring his 10th of the season at 12:00 to give Virden back the 2-1 lead. Jayden McCarthy of the Flyers tied the game at 17:26 when he scored his 28th of the season to make the score now 2-2. However Virden’s Owen Blocker scored his 2nd of the game at 17:56 to make the score now 3-2 for the Oil Caps. Late in the period at 19:44 Winkler’s Jaden Townsend scored his 12th to tie the game once again at 3-3. 

The third period saw Virden’s Owen Blocker score his 3rd of the game to give the Oil Caps the 4-3 lead. A late goal by the Virden captain Kolten Kanaski secured the win scoring his 2nd of the game at 17:54 to make the score 5-3 in favour of the Oil Caps.

Virden’s Kyle Kozma took the win stopping 31 of 34 for a save percentage of 91.2%. Winkler’s Dorrin Luding took the loss stopping 29 of 34 shots for a save percentage of 85.3%.
