Three D’s Combine for a W

October 14

Swan River, MB – It was a great night for players with a last name starting with the letter ‘D.’

Cody Durdle, Jake Dudar and Ben Dalke all scored to lift the Oil Caps to a 3-0 shutout road win over the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday night.

The win moved Virden to 4-3 on the season and back into the win column after last Fridays loss in Wayway.

The loss for the Stamps was their 7th straight defeat.

The Oil Caps offence was lead once again by their power play (2/5) on Wednesday night, their power play numbers are now operating at close to 29% efficiency.

Jake Dudar opened the scoring on the man advantage near the end of the first when he took a pass from Zach Whitecloud and was able to beat Zach DeGraves.

The Caps outshot Swan 10-8 in the opening period.

Two quick goals in the middle frame was all the Caps would need to seal the victory.

First it was Cody Durdle scoring his team leading 4th of the year on a point shot from the top of the circles on the PP to make it 2-0.

Just over a minute later, La Salle product Ben Dalke snapped home his first goal of the year  to give the Caps the 3-0 lead.

The 2nd Period would end with some fireworks as Tyler Ham dropped the gloves with Chandler Ashcroft after a strange play that saw a pair of different Stamps earn minor penalties.

In the third, the Caps shut down any chance of a Swan Valley comeback as they allowed just 4 shots on goal.

Patrick Zubick earned his first MJHL shutout making 19 saves in the process.

The Caps are back at home for a pair of games this weekend.

They open on Saturday at 7:30 vs Selkirk and finish on Sunday at 4:30 vs Steinbach!
