Virden Sings the Blues in Winnipeg

February 12th

Winnipeg, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals were looking to set the tone on Friday when they kicked off a 3 games in 4 nights weekend at the MTS Iceplex.

Despite a solid 25 save effort from Sean Kuehn the club wasn’t their best falling 4-1 to the Winnipeg Blues.

In what was the most physical game of the season, both teams came out with what appeared to be one goal in mind…. PLAY THE BODY!

The first period saw several big body checks and a quick pace but nobody could find the back of the net.

Mack Hardy would open the scoring just 30 seconds into the 2nd period as he buried his 26th goal of the season on a goal mouth scramble.

It would be all Winnipeg from that point on as they scored four unanswered goals to pick up their 26th win of the season and tighten the race for the 4th spot and home ice advantage to just four points.

Ryan Pruden, Reid Stefanson, Kam Nault and Gianlucca Esteves had the goals for the Blues who got a solid 17 save effort from Scott Parsens in the victory.

The two clubs will meet again tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

Game time is 7:30!

Bring your skates and join the Oil Caps on the ice following the game!!
