The Virden Oil Capitals are excited to announce that the club has signed two more players to letters of intent for the 2021 2022 MJHL season.
The club has signed defenceman Nolan Wallace (2003) from Brandon and forward Dakota MacIntosh (2004) from Winnipeg.
Wallace was the Oil Capitals 5th round pick (46th overall) in the 2018 MJHL Bantam Draft. He spent the last 3 seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League, winning a provincial championship with the club in 2018-2019. His second season with the Wheat Kings was his most productive as he posted a very respectable 36 points (4 goals, 32 assists) in 48 games to go along with 72 penalty minutes. He played only 8 games with the club this last season due to covid-19 and registered 6 assists. Wallace is a big strong body who defends well and has taken some great strides over the last couple of seasons.
MacIntosh, Virden’s 2nd round pick (18th overall) in the 2019 draft, played the last 2 seasons with the Winnipeg Bruins in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League. MacIntosh has been a prolific scorer at both the U15 and U18 levels. In his last year of U15 with the Winnipeg Warriors he had 32 goals and 30 assists for 62 points in 34 games. In his first year with the Winnipeg Bruins as a 15 year old rookie MacIntosh put up 23 goals and 24 assists in 43 games. He played only 4 games with the Bruins in 2020-2021 due to covid-19 and had 2 goals and 5 assists. MacIntosh was also a 9th round pick (192nd overall) of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey was excited to add both players to the roster for next season, “In Wallace we are adding a guy that can play a physical game and defends really hard. He blocks shots and has a real good knack for getting pucks to the net. His game has really grown in the last couple of seasons and he has tremendous character. We are excited about Nolan’s future with our hockey club and want to welcome him and his family to the Oil Caps”, said Ramsey.
“In Macintosh we get a player that has a natural ability to put up points. He has done so at every level he has played at and we expect that he will continue that path and become one of the elite scorers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Dakota will be an important player for us as we do lose a ton of scoring from our lineup this past season. It will be exciting to see what he can do as a rookie with our club”, added Ramsey. “We would like to welcome Dakota and his family to our organization.”
