Winkler Hands Virden 2nd Straight Loss

October 24

Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals dropped their 2nd straight on Saturday night in front of 900+ fans at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

The Flyers, coming off a win in Swan Valley the night before scored a goal in each period to knock off the Caps 3-2.

It was a great start for Virden, just 1:25 into the game as Mack Hardy drove to the net and potted his 4th of the year.

The Flyers would tie things up on the poweplay midway through the opening frame as Nolan Maquire beat Sean Kuehn on a clean shot for his 1st of the season.

The Caps would regain the lead shortly after as Ben Dalke continued his hot scoring pace netting his 4th goal in as many games. The goal would send the Caps to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead.

The Flyers would get the lone goal of the 2nd period on the power play as Tristan Keck found the back of the net to add to his team leading point totals.

Dionne Demke would get the eventual game winner 7 minutes into the third period on a scramble play in front.

After a furious effort to tie things up the Oil Caps came up short and fall to 6-5 on the year.

Sean Kuehn made 20 saves in net for Virden, while newly acquired net minder Connor Slipp turned aside 17 shots for the win.

The Oil Caps have less than 24 hours to regroup as they host Portage in Sunday afternoon (4:30pm) in a rematch of Friday night.
