Deadline Details

January 10

Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals were busy on Sunday as the MJHL trade deadline loomed.

The Caps, who were coming off a 4-3 win over the Winkler Flyers on Saturday night made a trio of moves on the day.

The Caps started the day by acquiring 97 D Logan Jackson from the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the SJHL for future considerations.

The club then flipped Jackson to the Selkirk Steelers for a familiar face in 95 D Bradley Reichardt along with future considerations.

“Being able to acquire Brad is a tremendous boost for our hockey club” said GM & Head Coach Troy Leslie.

In Reichardt, the club gets a guy who spent parts of two seasons in Virden, playing 75 games between the 13/14 and 14/15 seasons.

The Winnipeg product stands 5’11 and adds over 150 games of MJHL experience to the Caps blue line.

“Brad is an intelligent player who moves the puck well, makes great decisions and is a solid defender.”

Virden then moved Davis Ross and twin brother Nolan to their home town Fort Frances Lakers of the SIJHL for 97 F Carter Chorney and future considerations.

“We were disappointed the Ross twins requested to be moved, it was certainly something we didn’t want to do” added Leslie.

“In saying that, we are thrilled with the acquisition of Carter. I was able to watch him at the World Junior A Challenge (Team West) tryouts in Leduc earlier this year and I’m excited to work with him.”

In Chorney, the Caps get an 18 year old forward who has had an unbelievable start in the SIJHL. After posting 38 points in 47 games as a 17 year old rookie, the Ontario product has 29 points in 28 games this season.

The Oil Caps would like to welcome Brad back to the organization and welcome Carter and his family to Virden.
