Lee signs on with Oil Capitals

The Virden Oil Capitals are proud to announce the signing of Waskada product Justin Lee.

Lee, drafted in the second round (18th overall) by the Oil Caps in the 2015 MJHL Bantam Draft, is a smooth-skating 17-year-old blue-liner who is the son of Don and Carla Lee and grandson of Trudy Lee, as well as Bob and Shirley Davidson of Moosomin. Lee spent last season with the AAA midget Notre Dame Hounds at Athol Murray College, registering four goals and 19 points in 39 games. He eventually was named the MVP of the team.

“Justin is a dynamic defenceman who sees the ice and skates well,” said Troy Leslie, head coach and GM of the Oil Capitals. “He has a really good shot from the point. He’s a guy that can push the pace and will be able to join the rush from the back end.”

Lee was selected as a first team all-star defenceman at the prestigious Mac’s AAA midget hockey tournament in Calgary this past season. The event included teams from Canada, U.S. and Europe.

“Being at Notre Dame was great and it helped me develop into the player I am today,” he told oilcapshockey.com. “It was a great experience going there. It got me ready to play junior hockey.”

Lee says he had been in discussions with the Oil Caps organization for a while now and can’t wait for the season to start.

“I’m more than excited to play with the Oil Caps. They have great fans and a great facility. I can’t wait to get things started.”

Jamie Hodson, Director of Business and Hockey Operations for the Oil Capitals, is thrilled to have Lee join the Oil Caps.

“Anytime we can add a player of Lee’s skill-set to our team from a local perspective in southwestern Manitoba, it’s a win-win for both the organization and the player. Lee grew up on a family farm and brings small town values and a great work ethic to our team. Justin is going to fit right into our mold of adding good character people within our organization.”
