Portage La Prairie, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals opened the MJHL pre-season with a 4-3 loss on the road in Portage on Tuesday night.

17 year old Nathan Cvar  got the start in goal for the Caps and kept the Terriers off the board in the first period turning aside all 10 shots he faced.

The Dogs would open the scoring early in the 2nd as Lane Taylor would pot his first of the exhibition season.

Virden would quickly tie things up at one as Pipestone native John Patmore potted his first goal as an Oil Capital. Brayden Pawluk would pick up the lone assist.

The Oil Caps would take a 2-1 lead into the 2nd intermission as American Tony Haley notched his first of the pre-season. Kyle Salaway and Ben Dalke assisted on the play.

Ben Dalke would give the Caps the 3-1 lead early in the third on a beautiful goal set up by Kyle Salaway and Morgan Magwood.

The Terriers would take over from there, scoring three unanswered including the game winner with 34 seconds left to take the win and move to 1-0 on the MJHL Pre-Season.

Cvar turned aside 26 shots in his 15/16 debut.

The Oil Capitals will now await an inter-provincial battle with the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 at TOGP.
