The Oil Caps came away with a 4-3 win over the Blues in Winnipeg on Friday night.

Dylan Thiessen, who was named the MJHL Manitoba Pork Peak Performer of the Month earlier today, got the Oil Caps on the board at the 7:53 mark of the first period with his 17th of the year before Tyler Kirkup netted his 30th of the season less than three minutes later, making it 2-0 for the road team. The Blues ended up responding at the 14:35 mark as Nick Cicek scored his first of the campaign on the power play to cut the Oil caps lead to one.

The Oil Caps restored their two-goal advantage 5:49 into the second as Justin Lee’s seventh of the season with the man advantage made it 3-1 for Virden. The Blues wouldn’t go away, eventually cutting the Oil Caps lead back to one as Codey Behun’s eighth goal of the year at 17:44 made it 3-2 for Virden after 40 minutes.

The Blues kept coming in the third eventually tying the contest as Brendan Bartlett’s eighth goal of the season on the power play made it 3-3 before Marco Creta’s second of the season at 8:49 was a big one as it ended up being the game winner.

Dalton Dosch made 22 saves to pick up the win in net for Virden, while Jeremy Link took the loss for Winnipeg, stopping 25 of 29 shots.
