Oil Caps rally in third period to defeat Blizzard

The Virden Oil Capitals continued their solid play in the month of November with another big road victory on Tuesday night.

Down 1-0 heading into the third period, Kyle Salaway picked up his 10th goal of the season, tying the game at the 13:48 mark before Hunter Cloutier netted his fourth of the year less than two minutes later to give the Oil Caps a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, eventually defeating the Blizzard 2-1.

Riley McVeigh, who was named the first star on the night, stopped 21 of 22 shots to pick up his 11th win of the season, while Emilien Boily took the loss in net for OCN, turning aside 22 of 24 pucks.

With the win, the club’s sixth this month, the Oil Caps improve to 15-6-0-0 on the season and are just four points out of first place in the MJHL standings. The Blizzard meanwhile, dropped to 16-6-2-0.

These two teams meet up once again tomorrow night at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
