The Virden Oil Capitals are proud to announce that Defenceman Nate Schaefer has been named the Virden Oil Capitals Captain for the 2026/27 season.
Schaefer has been a big part of the Oil Caps lineup over the past two seasons, appearing in 80 games and recording 9 goals and 52 assists for 61 points. He was also a key part of last season’s Turnbull Cup Final playoff run, adding 9 points in 12 games.
But being a captain is about much more than what shows up on the scoresheet.
Schaefer has earned the opportunity to wear the “C” through the way he competes, carries himself and represents the Oil Capitals organization. Whether it’s at the rink, in the dressing room or out in the community, he understands what it means to be an Oil Capital and the responsibility that comes with representing our team and the town of Virden.
For Schaefer, Virden has also become much more than just the place he comes to play hockey
“Being named captain of the Virden Oil Capitals is a huge honor. The environment we have here as a team and the people around the organization have made Virden feel like a second home to me, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead this group and make this a special year.” – Nate Schaefer
