The 7th annual Virden Oil Capitals Awards Banquet is coming Thursday February 28th.

This edition of the Awards Banquet will be better than ever.

The Oil Capitals Hockey Club is honoured to announce that Leah Hextall, as our guest speaker for the evening. 

“Fifteen years ago Leah Hextall started her sports broadcast career in Brandon at CKX.  Since then, she has gone on to cover every major sport league in North America in Canada and the United States.  She has appeared on major networks including TSN, Sportsnet, Hockey Night in Canada, NESN in Boston and covering the World Cup of Hockey for ESPN in 2017.  This year, Leah ventured into the role of play-by-play calling the Canadian Women’s Hockey League for Sportsnet. In March, along with her broadcast partner, 3-time Olympic gold medalist for Canada in women’s hockey – Cassie Campbell-Pascal; the pair became the first all-female team to call a professional hockey championship, the Clarkson Cup.  Along with her play-by-play duties with Sportsnet this hockey season, Leah also contributes to “The Athletic” – an online subscription based publication which is the new standard in sports journalism. For The Athletic, Leah sits down for in depth one-on-one interviews with members of your Winnipeg Jets.”

The doors will open at the TOGP Hall at 5:30 for cocktails followed by dinner at 6:30; catered by Thelma Quinn and her wonderful crew.  The evening will be followed by speeches and player awards.
