TRADE DEADLINE RECAP 2024/25

As the trade deadline approached, teams across the MJHL were making their final moves to position themselves for a push toward the playoffs. For the Oil Capitals, the staff had been busy evaluating their roster and making strategic decisions aimed at strengthening their lineup for a playoff run.

The Oil Capitals made the following ins and outs ahead of the deadline:

In: Liam Goertzen (F 2006), Loic Morin (G 2004), Cole Robertson (F 2005), Adler Johnston (F 2004), and Nathan Shaefer (D 2006).

Out: Jonah Vanderhorst (D 2007), Parker Rolston (F 2006), Nik Trakakis (G 2004), Kyan Grouette (F 2005), Rhett Platt (F 2005), and CJHL Rights to Cole Slobodian (D 2006).

“As a staff we are very happy with our deadline acquisitions,” said GM and head coach of the Oil Caps Tyson Ramsey. “Things actually started before the deadline with bringing in Liam Goertzen and Loic Morin and then to add Cole Robertson, Adler Johnston and Nathan Schaefer at the deadline really addressed some needs we felt had to improve before we could think about being a playoff team. We added some size, skill and leadership up front. We added a very talented defenceman in Nathan Schaefer, and we got a little more experienced in net.”

With the new guys coming to town, the community will be excited to see these new faces play at upcoming Oil Caps games. “On top of everything, all the players we added are tremendous people off the ice and will fit in nicely with our group and our community,” Ramsey said. “On the other side it is always tough to lose good players and people, and we are extremely grateful for what the guys leaving contributed to our organization while they were here. We think we were able to find them great opportunities where they will be successful, so we feel good about that. Overall, we are very happy with the makeup of our team heading into the stretch drive to the playoffs.”

You can catch the Oil Caps back in action at their first home game of 2025 on Friday January 17thwhere they will take on the Niverville Nighthawks.
