Caps Acquire A WHL Champion

Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals acquire 20-year-old defenceman, Jordan Thomson (96) from the Portage Terriers for defenceman Cole Oliver (97).

The 5’11”, 182 lbs defenceman from Wawanesa, Manitoba played last season for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, registering 12 points (3G, 9A) in 46 games, also helping his team to a WHL Championship and an appearance at the Memorial Cup. This season he played 24 games for the Portage Terriers, registering 23 points (9G, 14A) and 69 PIMS.

Head Coach, Troy Leslie said, “ Jordan will provide us with some offense from our back end, stability, and leadership from his championship run last year with the Brandon Wheat Kings. We are extremely excited to have acquired him.”

Oliver has played in 146 regular season games for the Oil Capitals and 17 playoff games. In this time frame, he has registered 30 total points (2G, 28A) with 275 PIMS. This year Oliver played in 34 games, earning 4 points (4A) with 62 PIMS.

Leslie said, “ Cole was an outstanding Oil Capital and citizen in Virden. We wish him nothing but the best.”
