CAPS BEAT THE PISTONS

The Virden Oil Capitals won in back-to-back games against the Steinbach Pistons both by a score of 3-2.

The Caps started the game off with their first goal by Brett Sabel assisted by Chorney at 6:18. Chorney with a pass that landed the puck out in front for Sabel who put it, past goaltender Plowman.

The Oil Caps added to their lead with a minute and fifty-five seconds left in the first where Andrew Blocker got the rebound off of Plowman and scored his 8th of the season with assists from Veitch and N. Miller. The first came to an end with the Caps on top 2-0.

The Oil Caps headed off the ice with the adrenalin pumping.

In the second period at the 2:50 mark Steins Ian Amsbaugh put one past goaltender Owen LaRocque on a man advantage as C. Miller was called on for interference.

Stein’s goal was the only goal during the second. The game headed into the third 2-1 still favoring the Caps.

Halfway through the final frame, Steinbach’s Kirk Mullen scored their second of the night and tied the game up with just over 10 minutes to go. The game continued, both teams fought hard and with 4 minutes left in the game Ty Plaisier took a shot, the puck bounced off Plowman and Layton Veitch caught hold of it and put it past Stein’s goaltender.

The last few minutes of the game had fans at Tundra Oil & Gas Place on the edges of their seats as the Caps led by 1 with both teams having some close calls!

Finally, the score clock counted down; the game ended 3-2!

Caps fans cheered and celebrated in the stands just as the Oil Caps cheered and celebrated on the ice!!

Following home action for the Oil Caps is Friday, January 20th at Tundra Oil & Gas Place, 7:30 pm puck drop!
