Caps Offense Sputters in Wayway

October 9

Waywayseecappo, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals failed to convert on a pair of back to back 2nd period power plays and couldn’t generate much offence the rest of the night either in a 2-1 loss to the Wayway Wolverines Friday night.

The Oil Caps were looking to win their 4th straight heading into the Thanksgiving break but the offence that had busted out at the MJHL Showcase one week earlier appeared to dry up.

The Wolverines first goal came on on the Popwerplay after Tyler Ham took a penalty in front of the net.

The Wolves didn’t waste any time and opened the scoring off the stick of Aaron Dupasquier on the 2nd shift of the advantage.

In the 2nd the Oil Caps got on the board early when Dylan Thiessen took a great feed from Jake Dudar and was able to snap home his 2nd of the year short side on Brandon Holtby. The Oil Caps lone marker of the night came on the power play.

The turning point of the game came later on in the frame when the Caps were given back to back 2 minute power plays. After a number of scoring chances, they couldn’t convert and it would cost them.

After killing off the penalties, the Wolverines got a man advantage of their own and quickly converted.

Riley Shamray took a point shot through a screen and it found its way past Sean Kuehn who made 28 saves on the evening.

That was all the Wolverines would need as they shut down the Oil Caps defensively in the third and picked up their 2nd win of the season.

The Oil Caps move to 3-3 on the year and take a few days off before heading to Swan Valley on Wednesday.

The Oil Capitals would like to wish all of our supporters a happy and safe Thanksgiving Weekend!
