Kanaski Scores Two In A Comeback Win

Virden, MB –  The Oil Capitals beat the Dauphin Kings in a 3-2 OT comeback win on Saturday night on the road.  Assistant Coach, Carter Duffin Said, “ We were happy with our bounce back performance on the road, after a tough loss the night before. We were able to get a lot of pucks to the net, which allowed us more opportunity to capitalize.” 

After the first period of play the Oil Capitals trailed by one with a goal from Keaton Leininger assisted by Daniel Chartand at 5:31.  The Caps had two powerplay opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Shots on goal after 20 minutes of play were 14-6 in favour of the Caps.

The Kings stretched the lead to two early in the second period with an unassisted goal from Matthew Bartel. Kolten Kanaski got the Capitals rolling with a goal at 9:39 assisted by Marco Creta and Kyle Salaway to cut the lead to one. At the end of two periods the Oil Capitals were down by one. The Shots on goal in after 40 minutes of play were 20-10 in favour of the Caps.

Kolten Kanaski scored his second of the game to tie the game 2-2 assisted by Carter Cowlthopr and Jeran Knorr at 12:10 in the third period. The game was 2-2 after 60 minutes of play and would head to overtime to find a winner. The Shots on goal in the third period were 11-4 in favour of the Capitals.

The Oil Capitals went on the power play at 1:11 in the overtime period. Captain, Mack Hardy found the back of the net at 2:44 on the power play assisted by Carter Cowlthop.

The Final shots on goal were 54-20, Capitals. The Oil Capitals went 1 for 6 on the power play and the Kings went 0 for 2. 

The Capitals next action is on the road at the showcase tournament December 13 against Steinbach Pistions at 1:00 p.m. The Capitals next home action is December 17 against Dauphin Kings at 7:30 p.m. It is Subway Hockey Card night and the Capitals will be available for signing following the game.
