Lycar Earns First Point As An Oil Cap

December 4, 2016

Virden, MB- The Oil Capitals dropped a close one to the Winkler Flyers Sunday night, 2-1 in the Teddy Bear Toss game brought to you by TSL. Assistant Coach Carter Duffin said, “We knew the Flyers played a very high tempo game and had to combat their attacks. We were backstopped by Marc’s Audet 42 save night and were able to create a lot of opportunities offensively, unfortunately not capitalizing on enough for a victory.”

The first period was a busy one with both teams getting a power play chance and lots of shots directed towards the net. The Winkler Flyers found the back of the net with an even-strength goal at 15:14 scored by Jacob Lacasse from Matt Christian. At the end of 20 minutes of play the Caps trailed by one.

The next 20 minutes of play was a lot of back and forth action, with both teams able to capitalize. The Caps tied the game up with a goal from Mack Hardy at 12:05 assisted by Dylan Thiessen and Kirklan Lycar for his first point as Cap. Hardy’s goal was the first of the game and the fans were able to toss their teddy bears onto the ice! The Flyers took the lead again at 16:36 with a goal from Braden Billaney assisted by Will Blake, 2-1. At the end of the second period, the Caps trailed by one and shots on goal were 10-8 Caps.

The third period was all even strength play, and neither team could capitalize in the last 20 minutes of the game. With a tough fought battle the Caps dropped a close 2-1 game to the Winkler Flyers.
