OIL CAPS 2018 2ND ROUND PICK COMMITS TO THE CLUB FOR THE 2020/2021 SEASON

The Virden Oil Capitals are proud to announce that Southwest Cougars defenceman Trevor Hunt of Hartney, MB has committed to the hockey club for next season.

The 5’9” 160lb right shot defenceman was the Oil Caps 2nd round pick, 21st overall, in the 2018 MJHL Bantam Draft.  Hunt is coming off a stellar season in which he led the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League in goal scoring by a defenceman with 24 goals and he added 25 assists for 49 points while suiting up in all 48 games for the Southwest Cougars.  He also suited up in 1 game for the Oil Caps this last season as an AP.

Hunt joins a strong group of young defencemen that took huge steps for the Oil Capitals this season and with the departure of Jayden Wojciechowski his offensive style of game will be a welcome addition.  GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey was thrilled with Hunt’s decision to join his club, “Trevor is an elite defenceman, obviously he has the ability to join the rush and score goals but what is equally impressive is his hockey IQ and ability to make a great first pass under pressure.  He has a good stick in the defensive zone and understands his job when he is defending.  We are very very excited to add Trevor to our d corps!”

Hunt was also excited to commit to the Oil Caps for next season, “I am proud to be a part of such a great organization.  I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey to where I am today!”
