Teddy Bears Fly in One-Goal Loss to Kings

The Virden Oil Capitals got out to an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a goal from Tanner Lewis, 5:32 into the opening period that led to 355 stuffed animals littering the ice in the 3rd Annual TSL Teddy Bear Toss.

Unfortunately, this was the only lead the Oil Caps would have throughout the game. The Kings responded with a goal from Chance Thomas four minutes later and the two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first.

The two teams exchanged a pair of 2nd period goals each with the Oil Caps getting goals from Devan Schram and Carter Cowlthorp, leaving the teams tied at 3-3 after 40 minutes.

The Kings took the lead 4-3 just 19 seconds into the third period on a goal from Ben Hull. The Oil Caps pressured down the stretch, but couldn’t find the equalizer as the Kings held on for the 4-3 win.

Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play with the shots being dead even at 29-a-piece. Sean Kuehn picked up the loss in goal - his first loss in his last seven starts.

Virden will have a short turnaround as they host the Steinbach Pistons in their fifth meeting of the season on Sunday afternoon at 2:30. It’s the MGEU Family Skate game, so fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join Digger and the Oil Caps following the game. All participants will receive food and drink courtesy of the game host, MGEU.
