September 8

Weyburn, SK – It was a wake up call for the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday night as they fell 6-1 to the SJHL’s Weyburn Red Wings in pre-season action.

The SJHL club would get on the board early when Jack Champaign found the twine just 2:14 into the opening period.

Virden product Tristen Cross would respond near the end of the first period with his first of the pre-season. Torrin Grange and Morgan Magwood picked up assists.

The Cross goal would be all the Oil Caps could muster offensively in a night that belonged to the Red Wings.

Three unanswered goals in the middle frame followed up by two more in the third would send the home squad away with a 6-1 win, their first victory of the pre-season.

Patrick Zubick took the loss in the Oil Caps goal as he allowed 4 goals on 29 shots through 40 minutes. Brandon product Josh Pedersen took over in the third and allowed a pair of goals on 15 shots.

The Oil Caps will look to rebound quickly as they host the Portage Terriers tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

Game time is 7:30.
