Big Night for Bodie, Caps Beat Blues

March 15

Virden, MB – Drake Bodie erupted for a goal and three assists as the Oil Caps beat the Winnipeg Blues 5-3 tonight.

With the win, the Oil Caps take a 2-1 series lead over the Blues in the MJHL Quarter-Final series.

The Oil Caps never hit double digits in shots in a period, but took advantage of their opportunities when they came about!

Three goals in a 5:45 span to end the opening period saw the Caps jump out to a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Dylan Thiessen, Drake Bodie and Ben Dalke all found the back of the net and sent the crowd of 1148 into a frenzy.

The Blues came to life in the 2nd period and cut into the lead early. Liam Kroeker buried his first of the series however, just seconds later Brett Sharples notched his first of the playoff to regain the three goal lead.

Before the 2nd period would end, the Blues would add another to make it 4-2. This time it was Tyler Edwards with a rocket shot on the power play beating Sean Kuehn.

The Texas native made 31 saves for the Caps while Scott Parsons turned aside just 11 of 15 shots before giving way to Jacob Gnidziejko who made 8 of 9 saves in relief.

In the third, Reid Stefanson made things interesting with his 2nd of the playoffs to cut the lead to one.

As the Oil Caps locked down the defensive zone in the third, the Blues fired 10 shots on net but couldn’t get the equalizer.

With just a few seconds left on the clock, Drake Bodie won the draw in the Caps zone and fed the puck to open ice where Devan Schram would find it and put it into the empty net.

The Caps went 1/4 on the PP while the Blues converted once on three tries.

The win gives the Caps a 2-1 series lead, heading back to Winnipeg on Thursday night.
