Blizzard Hand Virden 3rd Straight Loss

January 29

Virden, MB –  January has been a tough one for the Virden Oil Capitals as the club lost their 7th game this month in a 5-4 loss to the OCN Blizzard on Friday night.

The Caps, who have now lost 3 straight were hoping a little home cooking would ease them into the win column after almost a full month on the road.

OCN got on the board early when Taran Lacquette fired a seeing eye shot past Sean Kuehn, who was making his first start in 2 weeks after a series of injuries.

The Caps were quick to respond however as Devan Schram finished off a nifty play by potting his 11th of the year and first of the night to tie things at one.

OCN would score two goals in less than a minute to end the period as Colin Woods & Shane Roulette scored to give the Blizz a 3-1 lead after one.

It was more OCN to start the 2nd as Logan Harland would net his 33rd of the season to make it 4-1. That would spell the end of the night for Sean Kuehn, who made 9 saves on 13 shots.

Less than a minute after the Caps swapped goalies, Curtis Scales would beat Patrick Zubick and give the Blizzard a 5-1 lead.

The Caps would finish the period on a high note however as Devan Schram got his 2nd of the night on the powerplay to cut the lead to three.

The Oil Caps special teams went 2 for 9 on the night and had a pile of quality scoring chances, but they could not beat Emelim Boily who made 45 saves for the win.

In the third, Tyler Kirkup and Colton Spicer would score to make things interesting but it was a close as Virden would get.

The Caps now fall to 2-7 in the month of January and have just 3 wins in their last 10 games.

They will head out on the road on Saturday to Winnipeg and try and right the ship vs the Blues.
