Caps Dominate Stampeders In A 6-2 Win

Virden, MB –  The Oil Capitals filled the back of the net last night in a 6-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders. This was the second match-up between these two teams this year; the Caps beating the Stampeders, Oct. 16, 4-2 on the road.

Assistant Coach, Carter Duffin said, “Came in with a game plan and knew we needed to get a quick start, being at home again. Then the team went to work and executed as soon as the puck hit the ice.”

The Oil Capitals came out flying and once Captain, Mack Hardy put one home at 9:40 in the first period on a power play assisted by Tyler Kirkup and Dylan Thiessen the goals kept coming. Seconds after the first goal the Caps kept the momentum rolling and scored again at 10:20 from Carter Cowlthorp assisted by Dylan Thiessen for his second assist of the night and Cole Oliver.  Swan Valley would cut the lead to one at 15:20 with a goal from Connor Navrot assisted by Trevor Mann. At the end of the first period the Caps were in the lead 2-1 and shots on goal were 10-6, Caps.

The second period the Capitals dominated the play – getting things started early with a goal at 1:50 in the period scored by Jeran Knorr assisted by Jacob Cronin and Turner Santin, 3-1 Caps.  Caps kept the pressure on and scored their fourth of the game at 7:45 from Carter Cowlthorp for his second of the game assisted by Mack Hardy and Dylan Thiessen, for his third assist of the night.  The Caps didn’t let off the gas petal, Tyler Kirkup scoring a power play goal at 12:27 assisted by Mack Hardy for his third point of the night and Tanner Lewis.  The Caps extended their lead with a goal from Kyle Salaway assisted by Tyler Kirkup at 15:49 to make it 6-1, Capitals. That wasn’t all on the scoring end the Stampeders put one past Audet on the power play at 16:51 from Trevor Mann assisted by Jordan Valentino and Keaton Jameson. At the end of the second and a scoring frenzy the Caps had the lead, 6-2.

The third period was a quiet one with no goals on either end. The Stampeders picked up the pas in the third period, but couldn’t get one past Audet. The final score was 6-2 Caps and the final shots on goal were 36-34 SwanValley.

Redferns Farmer Strong Hardest Working Player of the game was Tyler Kirkup. The Caps also earned two of the three stars of the night: Second star – Mack Hardy and First Star – Carter Cowlthorp.
